Covid Considerations

Cost

The retreat cost is on a sliding scale of $225-$250. The registration cost covers two nights of accommodations, six meals, instruction, and incidental costs. A reduced rate is also available on a sliding scale of $125-$150 or pay what you can. Full scholarship is also available by request. The true cost of the retreat is $250/per person, but we want to make this event accessible to all. Do not let the cost deter you from signing up. Please email Sifu Gina at gina@sevenstarwomenskungfu.com to get a code for a full scholarship if it is needed. We are also offering a “solidarity rate” this year of $300 for those of you who have the financial means to offset the scholarship costs.

Please note: There is also a small cost associated with transportation to the retreat. The Vashon Ferry costs approximately $20 for a car and 1 driver, with an additional $6/passenger. Please plan to split costs with the driver if you are carpooling. We will send around a carpool coordinating link two weeks prior to the retreat.

Schedule

Classes begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday, September 3rd and end Monday, September 5th at noon. Teacher training for all teachers and assistant teachers is on Sunday afternoon. There will be a mix of scheduled class time, social events, and unprogrammed relaxation time. We encourage you to go attend all classes you can, but please take care of yourself — it’s fine to take a break, nap, go for a hike, beachcomb, etc. instead of taking a class. Camp Burton is a lovely location with waterfront access and hiking trails.

If you have not attended one of our training retreats and are wondering what it's like, ask around before or after class to get insights from students who have attended one of the previous retreats. We’ve had an annual training retreat since 2012. It’s a lovely location and a fantastic opportunity to train and get to know your fellow students better.

Getting There

To get to Camp Burton: Take the Fauntleroy/Vashon Ferry. You must take either the 7:50 or 8:15am ferry from Fauntleroy (in West Seattle) to Vashon. You will be late to the first class if you miss the 8:15pm ferry. Note: this ferry schedule is subject to change. Please confirm the ferry schedule via the WSDOT link prior to departure.

Camp Burton’s address: 9326 SW Bayview Drive, Vashon Island, Washington 98070 (approx. 20 min drive from Vashon Island Ferry dock). Park in the parking lot adjacent to Grisham Hall. The check-in registration table will be open from 8:45-9:45am in front of Grisham Hall.

Covid Considerations

Please return to this section for future updates about our Covid protocols at the retreat. All of our students are fully vaccinated. We will encourage students to take a PCR test 3 days prior to attending the retreat and a rapid test the morning of. You will be asked to mask up for indoor classes and in common areas when you are not eating/drinking. We will not be assigning cabins until you arrive on-site, but if you have fellow students you want to pod up with, you can list preferences at registration. Given the need to balance cabin sizes and distribution of students we cannot guarantee you will get your preferred cabinmates. If you have concerns about sleeping in a cabin with 4-6 people, the camp has designated an area for tent camping for our group or you can sleep under the stars, weather permitting.
